Governmental Support

  • In August 2005, the German Federal Ministry of Economics launched the High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF: High-Tech Start-Up Fund) (http://www.high-tech-gruenderfonds.de) together with partners from industry and the KfW banking group. The High-Tech Start-Up Fund supports research-oriented start-ups with investment capital in the first year or two of their existence and makes sure that management receives the necessary support and assistance.
    BioM AG, from which BioM Cluster Development GmbH emerged in the autumn of 2006, is an official partner and accredited coach of the High-Tech Start-Up Fund. BioM AG assists start-up teams from all over Bavaria not only with counselling but also as a coach and provider of references.   • Bayern Kapital (www.bayernkapital.de) has for over ten years been specifically financing the research and development costs of new products and their market entry. This generally takes place in collaboration with other investors or coaches. The target groups of Bayern Kapital are business start-ups as well as young, small and medium-sized companies with strong growth potential in Bavaria’s high-tech sector.
  • BayBG Bayerische Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (www.baybg.de) (Innovation Division) offers investments in promising new businesses and innovation-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises.
  • The KfW Mittelstandsbank (KfW SME Bank) (www.kfw-mittelstandsbank.de) manages the most important federal German support programmes for new businesses (applications should be made through a normal commercial bank). The website not only provides details of the programmes, but offers information about business planning (e.g. check lists).
  • The LfA Förderbank Bayern (LfA Bank for the Advancement of the Bavarian Economy) (http://www.lfa.de) supports the establishment of small and medium-sized enterprises (including the professions) in Bavaria. The website contains basic information on programmes and procedures incl. examples of funding.
