NanoBiotechnology for new horizons
Nanobiotechnology products offer enormous medical potential, but their development is technically complex, capital-intensive, and subject to stringent regulatory requirements. At the same time, there is often a lack of structured collaboration between academic research, biotech companies, and regulatory expertise.
This is where the ZIM Innovation Network for NanoBiotechnology comes in: It brings together expertise from nanotechnology and biotechnology to develop new solutions for diagnostics, therapy, and drug development. The focus is on nanotechnology platforms for drug delivery, miniaturized sensors, and AI-supported analytical methods that accelerate the transfer of research results into marketable applications.
The network promotes interdisciplinary collaboration among companies, research institutions, and regulatory experts across the entire value chain. The network includes SMEs, eight medium-sized companies, as well as seven universities and non-university research organizations.
Funding is provided by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) as part of the Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM). Network management is coordinated by BioM and continues the cross-cluster activities with the Nanobiotechnology Cluster.
Current project status & future planning
The project is currently in phase 1 (network development). During this phase, the partners’ areas of expertise are being analyzed, strategic focus areas are being defined, and specific research and development projects are being prepared. Further steps include expanding the partner base, developing joint R&D projects, and enhancing the network’s public visibility.
Through the NanoBiotechnology Network, we specifically combine scientific excellence with industrial innovation and accelerate the transfer of research into marketable applications.
