BioM, together with its partner DEEP, the Institute for Deep Tech Innovation at ESMT Berlin, will co-host in Munich the 4th yearly session of Creative Destruction Lab (CDL), an objective-based mentorship programme for massively scalable science and deep-tech start-ups. CDL is a globally recognized program with a strong European focus and deep roots in Germany. Following the last session in Berlin, BioM and DEEP are now taking the next step. By hosting the 4th session in Munich, we pursue a shared goal: multiplying the value of diverse innovation ecosystems by bringing outstanding start-ups, science, industry, and investors closer together, across Germany, Europe, and beyond. This is part of a broader initiative, undertaken with DEEP, BioM and BioRN, consisting of developing a Unified Hub for Healthcare innovation in Germany, which would provide a single platform for technology translation in the country, combining strengths between Berlin, Munich and Heidelberg to stand out on the international stage.
What is Creative Destruction Lab?
CDL is an objectives-based mentorship program for massively scalable science and deep-tech start-ups which brings together a group of carefully selected ventures with a set of world-leading operators and investors as mentors. CDL’s mission is to enhance the commercialization of science for the betterment of humankind, and they do this by helping founders build massively-scalable science-based businesses. CDL is delivered over a 9-month term and includes 5 full-day objective setting sessions.
Why Munich?
Munich offers ideal conditions: a leading hub for life sciences and deep tech, strong international networks, and a high density of entrepreneurial excellence. Bavaria is home to more than 540 biopharma companies, and the number of new life-science ventures rose significantly in 2024—from 13 to 18 new companies. Even more striking: two out of every three euros of venture capital invested in Germany’s health sector flow into Bavaria. This underscores Munich’s position as one of Europe’s most dynamic innovation and growth ecosystems.
BioM and DEEP Berlin look forward to welcoming the CDL community to Munich and jointly shaping the next stage of this international innovation platform.
