Within the new call of the EIC-Accelerator (SME Instrument), Munich-based Smart4Diagnostics GmbH has achieved third place among 1,852 participating companies from all over Europe, Turkey and Israel.

The EIC Accelerator (SME Instrument) is part of the pilot project of the European Innovation Council (EIC), which supports top-class innovators, entrepreneurs and small companies with financing options and acceleration services. The focus is on market-creating innovations that shape new markets and generate jobs, growth and higher living standards.

With its world's first digital fingerprint for human blood samples, Smart4Diagnostcs convinced the European Commission and the European Investment Bank. The outstanding result of the young company is also a great success for the HealthTech location Munich and the start-up scene in Bavaria. The promised funding of 2.5 million euros will help the company to continue its growth and market access in 2020. First "early adopters" are already planned for early summer.

For Managing Director Hans Maria Heyn, however, this award means much more than just an important financial injection: "The vote of the European Commission and the European Investment Bank and the many experts in this selection process shows us the extremely high importance of data- and evidence-based monitoring of blood samples in the future. The regulatory pressure on laboratories is already growing today. Our solution will define the new quality standard of the future. This will extend the laboratory's promise of quality seamlessly to blood sampling."

To ensure that the project can be implemented from April 1, Smart4Diagnostics has now advertised several positions in development and quality assurance and will move to new premises in Munich.
