Regensburg-based Evanium secures €2.2 million in seed funding

The Regensburg-based company Evanium Healthcare GmbH has successfully completed a financing round with investors including FoodLabs from Berlin and Feast Ventures from Munich. The capital will be used to further expand the technology platform aimed at increasing bioavailability, a key challenge for many dietary supplements. The funds are intended to drive the expansion of clinical validation, the product portfolio, and international market expansion.

Evanium Healthcare was founded in 2019 at BioPark Regensburg and has developed a process to improve the solubility of phytochemicals. This significantly increases the stability and bioavailability of ingredients for use in dietary supplements, functional foods, nutricosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. The process, called OPTISOLV®, is patent- and IP-protected.

Despite often high prices, many dietary supplements do not deliver the expected results because the body absorbs only a small portion of the active ingredients they contain. This is precisely where OPTISOLV® technology comes in: it significantly improves bioavailability by specifically optimizing the absorption of ingredients in the body.

At the heart of the process is an innovative dual-coating system that combines a cyclodextrin-based core with an outer phospholipid shell. This stabilizes natural active ingredients in a crystal-free, highly dispersible state, preventing agglomeration, increasing permeability, and significantly enhancing both solubility and absorption—all using only natural substances. For challenging active ingredients such as curcumin, this results in a more than 1,000-fold increase in solubility and a more than 170-fold improvement in release during digestion. In direct comparative tests, OPTISOLV® thus significantly outperforms conventional phospholipid-based approaches.

In 2025, the company successfully launched OPTISOLV® Curcumin in collaboration with Hevert Arzneimittel GmbH & Co. KG, one of Germany’s leading manufacturers of herbal medicines. Preparations are currently underway for clinical trials to further strengthen the scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of Evanium formulations.

EVANIUM was founded by a multidisciplinary team with backgrounds in pharmacy and entrepreneurship and has rapidly evolved from a research- and development-oriented startup into a technology partner for established companies, currently employing 12 people. In 2026 alone, the young company produced and delivered more than two tons of material, demonstrating its industrial maturity.
