First EIT Health BioEntrepreneur i-day took place at BioM in Martinsried/Munich on November 17th. Students, postdocs and young professionals together with BioM mentors designed innovative product ideas and presented their work in a short pitch in front of a jury. The winning team will now get to travel to London to participate in the EIT Health i-days winners' event in December.

In November, all over Europe EIT Health i-days took place at 17 different universities and BioM as cluster organization. The aim of the Innovation Days was to boost students' entrepreneurial spirit and kick-start European health innovation.

Three inspirational speakers introduced the challenges of the day:

  • „Personalized Medicine – How to implement omics-based therapies in the clinical routine?“
Prof. Dr. Horst Domdey, Managing Director, BioM Biotech Cluster Development
  • „How to link genomics-based therapies to patients and doctors?“
Prof. Dr. Andreas Ladurner, Chair of Physiological Chemistry, Biomedical Center Munich, Faculty of Medicine, LMU
  • „How to make personalized medicine economically available to all patients?“
Dr. med. Hanns-Georg Klein, Medical Director of the Center of Human Genetics and Laboratory Diagnostics Martinsried, CEO of IMGM Laboratories and Deputy Chairman of the M4 Association for Personalized Medicine

Participants were assigned to teams and went together through a moderated "Design Thinking Process" and competed for Gold (two-day journey to London to take part in the European EIT Health iDay Winners’ Event), Silver € 300 and Bronze € 200 Awards. All award-winning teams receive an extra half day of personal start-up coaching from BioM.

The event was well received - participants particularly liked the intense discussion with expert BioM Mentors. Furthermore they were amazed how it was possible to come up with good solutions for these big challenges in such a short time by being guided through a highly structured process.

"I was fascinated how well our team moved through the entire Design Thinking Process in only one day and was even able to present a structured solution in a final pitch." Veronika Meyer, Graduate LMU, Clinical Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience (MSc)

The next EIT Health BioEntrepreneur i-day 2019 will take place on November 8, 2019 at BioM in Munich.
