The "German-Chinese Working Group for the Promotion of the Health and Medical Industry" was founded at MEDICA 2021. With this contract, the project for cooperation between German players and partners from the life science sector in China, which had been prepared over a period of around two years, was brought to life.

On November 16, 2021, the German-Chinese Forum for the Medical Industry 2021 was hosted at MEDICA in Düsseldorf. The CIPA, together with its German partners from economic development agencies and industry clusters, established the "German-Chinese Working Group for the Promotion of the Health and Medical Industry".
The establishment of this working group in the context of this event aims to harness the diverse opportunities and potentials for companies in the life science environment. Chinese and German companies are to receive support in expanding their activities in the other country. The focus is primarily on professional exchange and cooperation between companies in both countries and in science and research, as well as on industrial investments.

"The exchange of information on a professional level, the establishment of contacts, the development of networks and the trusting cooperation with partners in China and here in Germany are the focus for us as part of this new working group," emphasizes Sarah Niemann, Manager International Affairs of Life Science Nord, continues, "The intensively prepared establishment of the working group is now the ideal starting point for jointly advancing and shaping topics in the healthcare industry in both countries."

Nine partners from Germany are involved

The working group is led by CIPA (China Investment Promotion Agency of Ministry of Commerce of P. R. China) and Germany Trade & Invest, the German foreign trade promotion agency. Also participating from the German side are BioM, BioCon Valley, BIO.NRW, Hessen Trade & Invest, Life Science Nord, Medical Valley, medways and WTSH (Wirtschaftsförderung und Technologietransfer Schleswig-Holstein).

Greater focus on the healthcare industry

In his speech, Director General Liu Dengxun pointed out that the pandemic has made people pay more attention to health, which also brings new opportunities for the optimal development of high-quality medical services and international cooperation in the healthcare industry. Therefore, the investment promotion authority of the Ministry of Commerce is actively mobilizing resources from the medical and healthcare industries in China and Germany to establish an investment promotion acceleration platform to enhance investment cooperation between enterprises, share experiences in combating the pandemic, and promote cooperation in the development of vaccines and medicines in the industry to better benefit people in both countries.
