At the second joint Pitch Day hosted by BioM and BayStartUP, held on 15 May in Martinsried, promising start-ups once again met potential investors. Eight selected founding teams showcased the strong potential of Bavaria’s start-up ecosystem through sharp, concise pitches delivered to an audience of venture capital investors and business angels from the life sciences sector. The range of topics was broad, covering drug development, digital health, diagnostics, cell therapies, medtech, and green biotechnology.
Each team had just six minutes to clearly and convincingly present their business model. To prepare for this challenge, the start-ups received targeted pitch training from BioM and BayStartUP in advance. This preparation enabled them to not only deliver strong presentations but also respond confidently and competently to investors’ critical questions.
The high quality of the pitches did not go unnoticed. As Dr. Nathalie Weitemeyer from Bayern Kapital noted: “The joint Pitch Day by BioM and BayStartUP brings exceptionally well-prepared teams to the stage. What stands out most is the diversity – from AI to antibiotics – and the scientific depth with which the start-ups present their business models.”
From a founder’s perspective, the intensive preparation also paid off – both in terms of content and in making valuable connections. Dr. Frank Wallrapp of Twogee Biotech - a MAxL team explained: “The pitch training provided by BioM and BayStartUP was a real game changer. It helped us sharpen our complex technology with a clear focus on investors. During the Pitch Day, we were able to present our enzyme technology for biobased value creation in a targeted way and received valuable feedback and new contacts from the investor network.”
BioM sees the Pitch Day as a key component in strengthening entrepreneurial skills within the life science startup scene. “Our goal is to support life science start-ups not only on the scientific level, but also in developing entrepreneurial strength. The Pitch Day demonstrates how much innovative power exists in the Bavarian ecosystem – and how important it is to provide the right stage for it,” emphasized Elisabeth Harbich, Project Manager Start-up Support at BioM.
BayStartUP also highlighted the value of this event format, which effectively bridges science and entrepreneurship: “Six minutes that make the difference – Pitch Day is all about presenting complex ideas in a way that resonates with investors. The teams clearly showed how convincingly scientific excellence and entrepreneurial drive can go hand in hand,” said Dr. Carolin Plagmann, Head of Investor Network at BayStartUP.
The event concluded with a networking lunch that provided the opportunity for in-depth conversations and new connections between founders and investors.
