You are an academic research team in the field of biomedicine and want to spin off? Then the m4 Award is the perfect opportunity for you! The successful Bavarian pre-seed competition for the medicine of the future is entering its 8th round.
The m4 Award is open to academic research teams working on an application-oriented project that addresses the challenges of future medicine. In addition, there must be potential for a subsequent spin-off.
1st Information event

The application is two-stage. Until November 21, 2024, teams can submit a 5-page short description of the spin-off project.
If you subsequently receive a recommendation for the second stage, a 15-page outline can be submitted by February 13, 2025. The m4 Award jury of industry experts and investors will review the outlines and invite selected projects for presentation in week 20, 2025.
The winning teams will each receive up to 500,000 euros over a period of 2 years to validate their approaches. In addition, the funded projects will receive comprehensive project support on the way to founding a company.
Support is provided for research-related, yet application-oriented projects that serve to develop and test innovative products and technologies in the field of medical biotechnology.
Possible topic areas:
- innovative drugs and therapies (including NCEs, biologicals, ATMPs, vaccines)
- innovative platform technologies in the field of prediction, prognosis or diagnostics in biotechnology (including approaches based on the application of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning)
- innovative platform technologies for drug discovery and development (including approaches based on the application of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning)
- innovative approaches in the field of digital health in biotechnology (especially if there is potential for reimbursement by the cost units under the Digital Health Care Act DVG)
