With a well-attended BioM booth in the Global Village, high-quality contributions to the program and a strong corporate presence, Bavaria emphasised international innovation and collaboration at Swiss Biotech Day 2025.
On 6 and 7 May 2025, BioM was once again represented at Swiss Biotech Day in Basel - one of the most important European meeting places for the biotech industry. With over 3,000 participants from 49 countries, 25 international delegations, more than 130 exhibitors and around 50 thematic pitches, roundtables and panels, the event once again proved its relevance as a central platform for networking, exchange and cooperation.
Bavarian biotechnology was very well represented by a BioM booth in the Global Village, which was frequented throughout both days of the event and thus demonstrated a clear interest in the Bavarian ecosystem. In addition to numerous discussions with international biotech, pharmaceutical and financial players from Switzerland and beyond, there was also broad interest in Bavarian start-ups, companies and location offers.
One highlight was the Swiss-Bavarian Roundtable organised by BioM under the title ‘Bridging Ecosystems: Empowering Startups from Pre-Seed to Start-Up’. Designed as an ‘Innovation Journey’, the milestones in the life cycle of a biotech start-up were highlighted - each based on specific case studies:
- Translation: Universität Würzburg & Universität Basel
- Inkubation: MAxL by BioM & BaseLaunch
- Life Science Campus: IZB Martinsried & Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area
- Start-up: Invitris & T3Pharma
Together with the Swiss counterparts, the potential for cooperation, experience and synergies between the two innovation ecosystems were discussed.
The Bavarian biotechnology cluster was also strongly represented in other programme items:
- Investor networking: Hanns-Georg Klein discussed ‘Bridging Borders: Strategies in Global Partnering and Deal Making for Biotech’ in the panel round.
- Start-up pitch: Congratulations to Ulf Grawunder from T-CURX, who was selected from over 25 applicants to present his innovation at the Global Innovation Showcase.
- Panel discussion: Dominik Schumacher from Tubulis took part in a session on licensing, partnerships and NewCo start-ups in the ADC sector - including exciting insights into the critical role of CMC.
- German Networking at the Marketplace Reception: A lively closing event with drinks, snacks and exchange - jointly organised with the bioRN Life Science Cluster and the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture.
With this strong presence, Bavaria has once again positioned itself as an internationally recognised centre for cutting-edge biotechnological research and economic dynamism. The promotion of the Bavarian biotech landscape by BioM will continue to play a central role in the future. Through targeted networking and support programmes, we are actively committed to the business development of local and regional players in biotechnology and networking along the value chain.
