GeneNovate is designed to strengthen the biotech entrepreneurship ecosystem. With a focus on Gene and Cell Therapies, the program is also open to innovations in biotechnology, diagnostics and bioinformatics.
The program supports researchers, physicians and innovators in translating scientific ideas into scalable business models and bringing innovative solutions closer to patients. The program welcomes participants at different career stages – from advanced students, PhD candidates and Postdocs to experienced researchers and medical professionals.
The GeneNovate® 2027 program runs from December 2026 to June 2027 across ten regions in Germany, including Munich as well as Würzburg, Erlangen, Regensburg and Augsburg. It starts with a regional kick-off meeting in December 2026, followed by six online theoretical input sessions, six full-day onsite workshops and ongoing mentor coaching from January to June 2027. Participants work in teams to develop their ideas into concrete business concepts and prepare a start-up pitch.
At the end of the program, teams present their ideas at regional preselection events. Selected teams will then pitch their projects to an investment committee at the GeneNovate Final Event on June 23, 2027, in Heidelberg.
A key strength of GeneNovate is its collaborative approach, connecting participants with mentors, experts, startups, investors and industry representatives across the nationwide GeneNovate network.
This comprehensive program is offered free of charge.
Who can apply?
Advanced students and PhD candidates, Postdocs, experienced researchers, physicians and other medical professionals in life sciences, biotech and medicine. Applicants should have a strong interest in entrepreneurship and ideally be involved in a research project or have an initial idea that could be developed into a startup.
Previous entrepreneurship experience is not required.
