Abstract:
During today’s lecture, Prof. Martijn A. Spruit will present the (preliminary) results of multiple VISCOVERY® analyses focussing on the added value of clustering of patients with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). The clustering is based on the patients’ clinical complexity (for example, comorbidities or comprehensive lung function assessment) as well as on their response to treatment (for example pulmonary rehabilitation or drug treatment). This “real-world” study clearly exemplifies the added value that can be derived from such new approaches and insights, while at the same time demonstrating the underlying complexity of clinical data analysis.
Prof. Spruit has published >250 peer-reviewed articles on pulmonary rehabilitation, physical inactivity, and extra-pulmonary treatable traits in patients with chronic lung disease. He was the lead author on the 2013 ATS/ERS Statement on Pulmonary Rehabilitation. The European Respiratory Society awarded him the ERS COPD Research Award in 2013 and he became an ERS Fellow in 2016.
The work presented here is conducted under the roof of CIRO. CIRO specialises in treating people with chronic diseases such as COPD and asthma, heart failure or sleep-related respiratory distress. Each CIRO treatment plan is tailored to suit the needs of the patient.

The event is free of charge, registration is not necessary.
