Chinese biotech expert in Martinsried

From January 25th to 29th, the Chinese biotech expert Mr Rong Hui Gao, M.D. MBA, visited the Munich Biotech Cluster m4 and gave advise to the local companies about opportunities and hurdles of business development in China. Mr Gao has many years of experience working for multinational pharmaceutical companies and technology parks and directs the G-Med consulting company in the Zhangjiang high-tech park, Shanghai.

The cluster management by BioM organized the lecture and the free 1-on-1 consultations. Nine medium-sized biotechnology companies and two technology transfer organisations informed themselves about the market potential in China and the ways to find appropriate project or distribution partners, as well as financial support in China. Due to the cultural differences and the complexity of the Chinese market, this entry guide was evaluated by the participating companies as very helpful and has already led to five concrete ideas for cooperations.

The visit was part of the bioXclusters project funded by the European Union (www.bioxlusters.eu). Four European biotech regions have joined together to promote the internationalisation of small and medium-sized enterprises in the target countries Brazil, China and United States. In 2012, the Munich Biotech Cluster m4, represented by BioM, already had a Brazilian expert as a guest in Martinsried and will invite an American expert in this year. In addition, an exhibition tour in the United States is planned, which also invites Bavarian companies to participate.
