On July 3/4, the 2nd FORUM Science & Health took place in Fürstenfeldbruck near Munich. The successful event brought together more than 300 participants from science, clinics, network and patient organizations as well as industry to highlight current topics and trends in health research.

Already for the second time BioM Biotech Cluster Development GmbH organized the FORUM Science & Health on behalf of the Bavarian State Ministry for Economy, Regional Development and Energy (StMWi) at Veranstaltungsforum Fürstenfeld near Munich.

This year's conference focused on system medicine as the necessary basis for personalized medicine. More than 60 speakers from science and industry, authorities and ministries focused on the change in medicine and presented the latest findings on the development of diseases, prevention, therapy and application.

Bavaria's State Secretary of Economic Affairs, Roland Weigert, explained: "The FORUM Science & Health is a showcase for biomedical cutting-edge research and technologies and brings together all the important players from all over Bavaria. Biotechnology is the key technology of the 21st century and will provide answers to the great social challenges of our time. Biotechnology is also a decisive economic factor and employer for many people. Together we want to further strengthen the Forum as a hub and increase its visibility in Europe".

A picture gallery as well as the movie with many statements of the participants to the event can be found on the FORUM Science & Health website.

Digitization, the collection and analysis of data and the use of mathematical models with the participation of human and artificial intelligence are playing an increasingly important role in medicine. With a focus on autoimmune diseases, cancer, antibiotic resistance, data management, biomarkers and nutrition, the FORUM Science & Health highlighted the new challenges facing our society and our healthcare system. At the same time, the event showed innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to successfully mastering these challenges.

Prof. Horst Domdey, Managing Director of BioM, summed up: "Systems medicine is the goal of applied health research. We want to use innovative approaches in medical biotechnology to achieve personalized patient care. At this 2nd Science & Health Forum, we were able to provide decisive impetus to come a big step closer to realizing this vision".

The participants were very involved in the lively discussions via the interactive survey tool TEDME (www.tedme.com) during and after the event. The intensive exchange created a constructive atmosphere and led to new impulses for health research.

The most concise theses and contents of individual sessions were illustrated and recorded in so-called "sketch notes". Thanks to Bavarian, national and international partner organisations, an attractive line-up of high-ranking experts was achieved.

The next FORUM Science & Health event is planned for 2021.
