German Accelerator for LifeSciences launches in Boston, serving for international expansion

Cambridge, MA, USA; Munich and Berlin, Germany – October 2015

GALS` mission is to support German startups and young companies from the life sciences sectors digital health, diagnostics, medical devices, reagents and services, platform technologies and therapeutics. GALS assists promising enterprises with optimizing their business plans, processes, products and teams. GALS is part of the German Accelerator program and builds on the experiences made by the existing German Accelerators for technology startups located in Silicon Valley and New York City. Program participants gather international experience and will be able to refine and validate their business cases within the context of the US market. Additionally, they will be supported by a network of experienced mentors and consultants who assist with establishing relationships with potential clients, partners, and investors.

With the new branch in Cambridge/Boston, the German Accelerator will further strengthen its role in supporting German startups in the U.S. Its life sciences program will address an important need within the German life sciences community. While Germany is known for its excellent innovation efforts at universities, research institutions, and industry, it has struggled with providing a fruitful environment for life sciences company growth over the last decades. New ideas and exciting technologies are often not translated into building internationally successful companies.

German Biotech clusters like BioM for the Bavarian biotechnology community are partner of the accelerator program.

GALS will service and consult selected companies under the leadership of Christoph Lengauer, PhD, MBA, in his role as first CEO of the German Accelerator Life Sciences together with a team of engaged and experienced colleagues,: “The German Accelerator Life Sciences aims to transform the German life sciences landscape. Our goal is to assist in creating leaders in the life sciences space with lasting competitiveness and success in the global marketplace. By offering high-end consultancy and mentoring, GALS is committed to providing individualized and highly flexible services, tailored exclusively towards the specific needs and objectives of selected life science companies.”, says Christoph Lengauer.

Residing at the Cambridge Innovation Center on Kendall Square in Cambridge, the most dense innovation cluster in the world, program participants will not only gain access to the resources, expertise, and mentoring network of GALS, but also be embedded in an environment with hundreds of biotechs and big pharma companies, as well as renowned research organizations like the Broad Institute, MIT, Harvard University, and well known tech companies including Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft.
