Internet of Things

On December 15, 2015 IBM has opened in Munich the global headquarters for its new branch Watson Internet of Things. About 1,000 new jobs will be located in the HighLight Towers in the northern part of the city. It represents IBM’s largest investment in the last 20 years in Europe. The aim is to connect devices, sensors and systems with cognitive capabilities. Examples include medical devices as implanted defibrillators and wearables. Other application areas are self-regulating productions plants, connected safety and driver assistance systems and intelligent building automation.

“The starting position of Germany’s industry for digitalisation and Industry 4.0 is excellent – its advantage is the high level of industrialisation”, said Martina Koederitz, chairwoman of the board IBM Germany. “This forms an ideal sounding board for data-driven cognitive business models. With the now available new solutions, the limits of feasibility are pushed even further.”
