Review analytica 2014

BioM presented the Bavarian Biotechnology Cluster and the Munich Biotech Cluster m4 at the analytica 2014 in Munich on April 2nd-4th. The trade fair for laboratory technology, analysis and biotechnology attracted more than 34,000  international visitors to Munich. A new record was reached with the number of exhibitors – a total of 1,142 companies from 40 countries were present. Besides its booth, BioM actively participated in the conference programme of the section life sciences.

Prof. Dr. Horst Domdey, CEO of BioM, gave a presentation at the Finance Day on the third day of analytica. He commented on the recent challenges for the financing of innovations and showed the relevant instruments for pre seed and seed financing as well as research funding opportunities for small and medium enterprises. He emphasized the importance of public funds for the preparation of founding activities to close the validation gap between basic research and the venture capital market. In the following, representatives of venture capital firms discussed what makes biotech companies an attractive investment and which business models are preferable.

The next day addressed Personalised Medicine. A panel discussion under the headline „Personalized Medicine and Companion Diagnostics – How will they reach the market?“ brought together a representative from a pharma company, a diagnostic company, a gene analysis service provider and a patient organization. The round was moderated by Dr. Georg Kääb, press officer of BioM. In the following elevator pitches young start-up companies were given the opportunity to present their innovative business ideas, in part by placing through BioM.

On the last analytica day also the Job Day took place, which attracted graduates and qualified persons from all over Germany. With the company profiles included in the Bavarian Biotech Report, BioM offered a compact overview over the versatile Bavarian biotech landscape. Current entries from the highly frequented BioM job market gave an insight into job profiles in the sector and for the one or other interested also concrete follow-ups.
